Germination vigour affected by seed polymorphism in Atylosia scarabaeoides Benth

Atylosia scarabaeoides Benth. a rangelegume of tropical area, showed very high variability in its seed size and colour. The seed from four different sites of rangelands of Jhansi were studied for its polymorphic and germination behaviour. The distribution pattern of seed was higher in intermediate class of size X colour i. e. Medium - brown (7.50%). Maximum test weight of 1000 seeds were found in bolder seeds from Large - dark brown group (21.05 gm). The seeds from site I were found heavier than othersite with a positive correlation to water holding capacity of soil. Seed germination gave significant res ponse for colour class and sites with maximum germination in Dark brown and medium class at site III.
