Industrial Design enhancing Innovation To a Higher Level

Industrial design is not what it used to be. The opportunities and challenges posed by new technologies and production arrangements, user and customer demands, and environmental and economic crises have prompted a redefinition of the approach, practices and methods of industrial design. Still, the effect of this transformation may not yet be as evident in the elevator industry as it is in other industries. This paper explores how industrial design may act as facilitator of innovation for the elevator industry: In particularly, it inquires why and how should an industrial designer be involved in engineering development projects.
