Six-High Mill Stand With Wider Dynamic Range of Control

At the recent ALUMINIUM 2008 show in Essen, Germany Siemens VAI unveiled a new technology, which offers an alternative to conventional four-high stands for aluminum cold rolling. The Siroll Alusix six-high mill stand configuration (Figure 1) specifically addresses the needs of aluminum rolling mills (versus steel) and their need for greater flexibility for frequent width changes in sheet product. Light Metal Age spoke with Peter Spencer, Cold and Foil Mills manager - Aluminium at Siemens VAI Metals Technologies while at Essen, who explained in detail about the new Alusix technology and why it is so fundamentally different than other technologies.
