Modern Advances in Producing Building Sheet Products from Twin Roll Cast Aluminum

In most economies, the per capita consumption of aluminum is closely related to the nation's GDP. One of the driving forces for this consumption is the increased use of aluminum sheet for building and construction applications. The market for these products expands rapidly as an increasingly prosperous middle class aspires to live in single-family homes and entrepreneurs develop new office buildings and production facilities. Modern residential and commercial buildings use large quantities of coil coated aluminum alloy sheet to cost-effectively achieve the pleasing appearance, ease of construction, energy efficiency, durability, and ease of recycling demanded by today's ever-more-demanding consumers. The building and construction industry accounts for 15 percent of the North American aluminum industry and 18 percent of North American aluminum sheet and plate consumption (Figure 1).
