The first issue of Nickel magazine 30 years ago looked at new products and applications of nickel-containing stainless steel in Japan, which in1985 was the world’s leading producer. Since then what has changed and what are the trends?While world production of nickel-containing stainless steel hascontinued to increase over the past three decades, growth in Japan hasslowed. In contrast, stainless steel production in China has seen rapidexpansion and today accounts for over half of world supply. DespiteChina’s rise, Japan is still placed as the number two producer, with over8% of the world’s supply in 2014.
