Stainless Steel Piping Survives Shocks

Earthquake-resistance tests by the Japanese Stainless Steel Association (JSSA) have shown that stainless steel piping systems (joined by mechanical couplings) exhibit good air tightness and do not leak. The tests were intended to assist development of durable stainless steel domestic piping systems and are part of the Japanese government's Special Research Project on Earthquake Disaster Mitigation for Urban Regions. At a full-scale earthquake-testing facility, nicknamed "E-Defense," the JSSA tested the resistance of various building materials and components.
