Platinum Ogon was created by the crossbreed between a Nezu Ogon and a red-eyed Kigoi in 1963. It has a noble lure distinct from Yamabuki Ogon in yellow gold, and being popular rather in the small or medium size classes of Hikari-mujimono. Yamacho KoiFarm, known as Chogorou, is a leading Platinum-Ogon breeder that has acquired a reputation of producing the metallic-white type. Yamacho Koi Farm was founded seventy years ago by the grandfather of the present farm owner Nobuaki Hiroi, His father and grandfather mainly produced Jinbei Sanke. Nobuaki took an interest in breeding Platinum Ogon when he helped Yamasan Koi Farm in the neighborhood with their Platinum culling. Yamasan Koi Farm had been already known as a Platinum Ogon breeder there in the Uonuma area, Niigata. Nobuaki made an attempt to breed Platinum Ogon at his farm, but the first fry were all yellowish. His father thought that yellowish Platinum was not Platinum and told him to throw them away. But Nobuaki kept them in a vacant nursery pond and didn't give up.
