Kobayashi Showa & Morita Sensuke The shop of Watanabe Fish Farm is located just next to the 'torii' gate of Hofu Tenmangu Shrine, Hofu, Yamaguchi prefecture. They started koi breeding by using Kobayashi Showa around 1969. It was at the highest periodof the Kobayashi Showa that was completed by Tomiji Kobayashi. Tadashi Watanabe, the present farm owner, looked back to those days and said, "Many koi farmers rushed to the Kobayashi's in Niigata. They waked up at 4 o'clock in the morning and waited somehours in front of Kobayashi's farm in order to buy his Showa." Tomiji Kobayashi became a star breeder by creating a new type of Showa Sanshoku. Watanabe Fish Farm succeeded in breeding and producing good Showa of the Kobayashi Showa bloodline. One of them got the then 1-bu (now18 bu) Best-in-Size at the 9th ZNA All Japan Show in 1974. Those successful Showa laid the groundwork of Watanabe Fish Farm as a breeder.
