The contract traded slightly higher than the previous close most of the day, but fell about $1 going into the close. Early gains were credited to signs of an economic uptick, as sales at US retailers moving up by 0.5% in July and sales for May and June were revised higher. A weaker US dollar also lent early strength to $87.37.
