Timely expansion of global LNG fleet coincides with need for more optimal use of shipping assets

The LNG shipping fleet is presently characterized by oversupply. At the end of '2015, the cargo capacity of the fleet was 7.1 percent higher than at the start of that year, greatly exceeding the 0.5 percent growth in the world's LNG imports. The LNG fleet has much potential for improved productivity. Presently, most ships spend half the time in ballast and consolidation between producers and traders should also result in more optimal use of shipping assets.
