The Department of Energy reported crude stocks rose by 4.2 million barrels against expectations for a 3 million-barrel increase. Gasoline stocks rose by 3 million barrels, against an expected increase of 200,000 barrels, and distillates, including heating oil and diesel, fell by 135,000 barrels, against expectations for a 1.5 million-barrel decrease.
