The United States is one of the major Western trading partners in the Far East. In 2003, the PRC purchased USD28, 418.5 millions value of produces from the U.S. [Source: U.S. Census Bureau, Foreign Trade Division, Data Dissemination Branch, Washington, D.C. 20233]. During the same period, Hong Kong purchased an equivalence of USD13,542.1 millions. The following table shows that the U.S. is the only Western trading partner that goes inside the top five major importing countries of Hong Kong.
