Crude oil hovered in place today near a one-week low as the euro fell amid concern Europe's debt crisis will limit the recovery in global fuel demand. Oil dropped to an intraday low of $69.51 after the common currency fell to a four-year low against the US dollar, reducing the attractiveness of commodities as an alternative investment. Part of today's weakness stemmed from a failure of G-20 finance chiefs to agree on steps to strengthen the recovery in Europe.
