Technicians with Norwegian DNV have completed their forensic examination of the Deepwater Horizon's blowout preventer.

DNV was contracted by the federal government to run tests on the five-story, 300-ton device to determine why it failed Apr. 20 in an accident that led to the nation's worst maritime oil spill. The findings were turned over to a joint US Coast Guard-Bureau of Ocean Energy Management panel that is investigating the causes that led up to the loss of the rig.
