Oil rose to a high of $99.95 early in the session, supported by a deep drop in oil inventories, but the fear of a faltering global economy pushed the contract lower. The US crude inventory report showed that crude inventories fell 3.4 million barrels, compared to expectations for a 500,000-barrel decline.
