The National Hurricane Center said Hurricane Irene was 300 miles south-southwest of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, this afternoon with sustained winds of 110 mph

The storm, now off the Georgia-South Carolina coast, is continuing to move to the north at 14 mph. Current projections have the storm making first landfall in North Carolina early Saturday and moving up the coast to make a second landfall near New York City early Sunday. From there it is expected to plow through New England and be off the southern tip of Greenland by early Wednesday.
