Technip has been awarded a contract by Exxon Mobil, on behalf of the Marine Well Containment Company (MWCC), to design an emergency response system that will be available to contain oil in the event of a potential future underwater well incident in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico

The French company reports that the contract covers front-end engineering design of the subsea components -- equipments, umbilicals, risers and flowlines -- of the Marine Well Containment System. This system will be designed such that it could be mobilized within 24 hours after an incident and fully deployed within weeks. Technip's operating center in Houston will execute the contract, which is scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of 2011. Financial details of the contract were not released.
