Four misdemeanor charges have been filed against Southern California Gas over a leaking well at its Aliso Canyon natural gas storage facility near Los Angeles

Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey said Tuesday that SoCalGas has been charged with three counts of failing to report the release of hazardous materials to the proper authorities from Oct. 23-26 and one count of discharging air contaminants starting Oct. 23 until the present. SoCalGas said its SS-25 access well at the Aliso Canyon facility began venting methane into the atmosphere on Oct. 23 after a portion of the well casing failed. The well, according to some state officials, has been venting anywhere from 40 million to 62 million cubic feet per day.
