Crude oil advanced, hitting an intraday high of $81.78, amid a weaker US dollar, rising demand for imported fuel in strike-hit France and growing concern that a weekend hurricane could head toward Mexican offshore oil infrastructure in the Gulf. Some of the volatility in the US dollar was mitigated as the Group of 20 finance ministers met today to try to reduce tensions in the currency market. The US dollar was little changed against the euro, after dropping as much as 0.4% to $1.3972 earlier in the day.
