Kinder Morgan said its subsidiaries Elba Liquefaction and Southern LNG have received authorization from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for the Elba Liquefaction Project

The $2 billion project will be constructed and operated at the existing Elba Island LNG import terminal near Savannah, Georgia. The first of 10 liquefaction units is expected to be placed in service in the second quarter of 2018, with the remaining nine units coming on line before the end of 2018. Each unit will have an annual capacity of 250,000 tons per year, with an overall project capacity of 2.5 million tons/yr, or roughly 342.5 million cubic feet of gas per day. The project is supported by a 20-year contract with Shell.
