The world's largest floating LNG (FLNG) facility, Shell's Prelude, is located off the coast of Western Australia. It represents an exciting and significant development for LNG, which has come a long way in the past 50 years. In 1964 the first purpose-built LNG tanker, the Methane Princess, also owned by Shell, transported the first commercial LNG cargo from Algeria to the UK. From the outset, the main appeal of LNG, which is flexibility in transportation to market, remains ever necessary.
