Overnight buying in the OTC markets set the pace for a bullish regular session. Prices opened at $3.746, briefly inched down to an intraday low of $3.693, before staging a strong rally to an intraday high of $3.853 in the last hour of trading. Bullishness stemmed from technically oversold conditions, as well as stout air-conditioning demand from the South, Southeast and up the East Coast. High temperatures in New York are expected to be 11 to 15 degrees above normal through the end of the week. Some buyers were also take a cue from forecasters calling for the next tropical storm behind Hurricane Earl, known as Fiona, to potentially threaten the Gulf of Mexico by the weekend. However, others have their doubts as most recent computer models show the increasing potential for Fiona to remain an Atlantic storm.
