The National Hurricane Center is monitoring shower and thunderstorm activity associated with an elongated area of low pressure several hundred miles east of the Windward Islands.

The system has become a little better organized as it drifts toward the Caribbean and is given a 60% chance of becoming a tropical system within the next five days. Models indicate it could make landfall as a tropical storm as far east as the central Louisiana coast.
