February slid to an intraday low of $88.36 a barrel as the US dollar gained 0.4% to $1.3308 per euro. Today's weakness also stemmed from profit taking in front of potentially large oil inventory increases over the next couple of weeks. Floating cargos of oil import have been intentionally held offshore to avoid tax consequences until the New Year, but now those inventories should begin showing up in the weekly storage data. Earlier in the day, oil rose to an intraday high of $92.07.
