Chevron reports it will spend $26 billion in 2011, with 85% of that set aside for exploration and production projects

This is an increase over the 2010 capital spending plan of $21.6 billion. The company reports that E&P spending for the new year will be $22.6 billion, with $2.9 billion tagged for refining. The supermajor reported that most of the spending will be for major natural gas projects, such as the Gorgon and Wheatstone LNG developments in Western Australia, as well as deep-water exploration and development in the US Gulf of Mexico. In the Gulf, Chevron is involved at Jack/St Malo, Tahiti-2, Big Foot, Perdido and Buckskin. Also included in the budget is work in the Gulf of Thailand and in West Africa as well as improved oil recovery projects.
