The transiting vessel, a US-built crane ship named the Oceanus, was maneuvered through the Pacific-facing Cocoli Locks. The inauguration of the new lock will take place Sunday with the first commercial transit of the container vessel COSCO Shipping Panama. The canal authority said the new waterway will allow Neopanamaxclass ships the ability to transit.
