A lawsuit has been filed in Alaska Superior Court in Anchorage by a shareholder claiming the that the chairman and board members' mismanagement led not only to the Deepwater Horizon rig explosion and spill but to the devaluation of BP shares.

The lawsuit was filed by local attorney Jeff Pickett, who accuses BP Chief Executive Tony Hayward and the corporation's board of "breaches of fiduciary duties and gross mismanagement," resulting in "improper, reckless and illegal health, safety and environmental practices at the company."
