Crude advanced to a one-month high of $77.90 after gasoline demand rose 1.6% to 9.3 million barrels a day, the highest level since the week ended Aug. 28. Today's weekly Department of Energy storage data report showed crude oil was up 1.7 million barrels; motor gas, down 636,000 barrels; heating oil/diesel, up 1.8 million barrels. This was against expectations of crude oil, down 1 million barrels; motor gas, up 250,000 barrels; distillates, up 1 million barrels. Meanwhile, refineries operated at 87.9% of capacity, down 1.2% from the prior week.
