Norweigian DNV has been contracted by the departments of the Interior and Homeland Security to conduct the forensic examination of the blowout preventer and the lower marine riser package from the Deepwater Horizon

Oslo-based DNV will use personnel from its Columbus, Ohio, and Houston offices to conduct the examination. The BOP and the lower marine riser package are under federal custody at a secure facility at the joint NASA-Coast Guard facility at Michoud, Louisiana. Neither DNV nor the federal government released the financial details of the contract or when the examination would begin. DNV officials did say that their plan for the examination must be approved by federal officials before it can begin.
