German oil companies invest in South-East Asia

Hamburg-based lipid producers Berg + Schmidt and Sternchemie are building a new deoiling plant in Singapore, for the production of both GMO and non-GMO soybean lecithin. The initial phase of the plant, which is expected to come online in the next few months, will be able to produce 4,000 tonnes of deoiled lecithin, for sale in both powdered and granulated forms. The companies' existing plant in India is already working to capacity, serving local customers. Berg + Schmidt Managing Director, Andreas Reith, said: "With our new location in Singapore we can make better use of logistic advantages in the procurement of raw materials and in exports, for the benefit of our customers around the world." At the beginning of the year, Berg + Schmidt also opened a new fatty acid fractionation plant in Pasir Gudang, Malaysia, to increase production of the company's BergaFat F-100 animal feed product, as well as C16-18 fatty acids for the food industry.
