Following reports in the media in June, Nestle India issued a series of statements relating to a claim that live insect larvae had been found in an open package of the company's follow-on infant formula Nan Pro-3. Nestle admitted to initial confusion regarding the source of complaint, as it transpired that it had been made by the wife of the gentleman identified in the press, but revealed that the company had contacted the complainant to ask for the product in xtrder to conduct analyses, but this was not forthcoming. Other examples of the infant formula from the same batch were therefore tested by the local food safety and drug administration (FDA) representatives and found not to be contaminated.
