Carbon-based nanomaterials (CBN) have diverse application in electronics, environmental and biomedical fi elds. The increase in the mass production of CBN will lead to possibilities for its interactions with humans and the environment, however, available nanocarbon toxicity data are still fragmentary and, to some extent, confusing. On the one hand, the cytotoxicity of some CBN has been shown for several gram negative and gram positive bacteria[1,2]. On the other hand, Microtox assay estimated carbon nanotubes and C60-fullerenes mainly as nontoxic[3,4]. These data contradict representations of luminescent assay as one of the most sensitive biotest.
