For some of us, the phrase "flower power" will always be associated with peace signs and Peter Max posters from the 1960s. I know, I was right there, wearing a fringed vest with some flowers in my hair. But now when I think of flower power, it's all about my kitchen garden.Foliage design and food gardening have both been headlining trends in the gardening world for the past few years. Foliage-centric gardens appeal to busy, sophisticated folks who see their gardens as places for entertaining and relaxing. Many of the new food growers are young, gritty gardeners seeking fresh, local flavor, perhaps with limited growing space and budget. Between the two, growing flowers might seem fussy or frivolous.
