Bergeson Gardens

Fertile, Minn., certainly sounds like a fitting place to see thriving gardens—even in the wide, open spaces of northwest Minnesota near the Polk and Norman county line. But after driving past miles of corn, soybean, and hay fields bordered by woodedlots, it's easy to believe the directions in hand must be wrong. Then it appears: the Bergeson Nursery sign. At the end of the driveway, doubt disappears. Colorful beds stretch straight ahead and to the right. On the left, plants, trees, and shrubs for sale fill the space between the driveway and a country schoolhouse converted to a gift shop. It doesn't take long for a sense of peace—and awe—to settle in.
