Beale pointed out how the industry still relies on the basic utility value of LPG as a cooking and heating fuel, but that innovation has been thin on the ground for much of the industry's history. He noted that domestic cylinder design had not changed essentially for 40 years until the recent introduction of composite lightweight cylinders - and that the autogas industry is not a recent invention but over 50 years old.
