Credit crunch hits Russian oil firms

Russia's leading energy companies Lukoil,Rosneft,Gazprom and TNK-BP have appealed to prime minister Vladimir Putin for government funding to be made available to the industry.The firms would like to use the funding to refinance loans with international banks,estimated at 80bn,and to support investments-particularly in strategically important projects and foreign acquisitions.
