Last issue, I gave advice on landscape design for small lots and included a list of some of my favorite deciduous trees and evergreen shrubs suitable for petite properties. This time around, let me share a few more thoughts on landscape design for small spaces and list some useful deciduous shrubs of diminutive stature. In the May/June issue, I covered three key concepts: Be ruthless in ripping out existing old, overgrown and less than lovely plant material; reduce the percentage of lawn to around 40 percent of the total property (or remove it entirely); and, finally, use smaller plants.
