Sulcorebutia or Rebutia?

The characteristics (i.e. body, areole, flower, fruit and seed) of Sulcorebutia spp. are described and compared with those of Rebutia sensu lato, R. fidaiana, R. neumanniana, R. neocumingii and Echinopsis sensu lato. Results of hybridization experiments between species of Sulcorebutia, Weingartia [Rebutia], Rebutia and Echinopsis, and their implications regarding the genetic distance between these genera, are briefly discussed. The geohistorical distribution of Rebutia and Sulcorebutia is presented.
