Many botanists would find themselves in plant paradise if they were exploring a tropical rain forest or some Asian mountains, but to cactus specialists there is no place more exciting than the dry coastal deserts of Chile and Peru. These deserts receive almost no rain, yet have some of the most remarkable populations of cacti in the world.
