Ecuador wants to build an onshore LPG terminal and storage facility by October 2010, which it says will be run by national firms and slash supply costs. The country's president Rafael Correa last month laid the first stone at the Monteverde site in the Pacific coastal province of Santa Elena. Correa says the long-standing business of importing LPG and using a floating ^storage facility run by private-sector companies is over: "Now things will be run by Ecuadorean firms," he says (LPGW, 21 November, p10).
