Northeast US aquaculture production up in '95 to 162.4 million dollar

A recent study based on an industry survey of 152 commercial aquaculture operations estimates the 1995 total farm gate value of aquaculture production in the Northeast US to be 162.4 million dollar; 11 percent higher than 1992. Mark J. Spatz, James L.Anderson, and Susan Jancart of the University of Rhode Island have recently completed the Northeast Region Aquaculture Industry Situation and Outlook Report 1994-1995. This report was funded by a grant from the Northeastern Regional Aquaculture Centre.The study includes aquaculture production figures from Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Based upon producer responses, itidentifies future opportunities and current growth constraints for each segment of the Northeast aquaculture industry as well targets priority research areas.
