Two New Aloe Species From Uganda

Two new species of Aloe are described from Uganda. Aloe butiabana occurs on the Lake Albert plainsn Western Uganda. Aloe wanalensis is a pendulous aloe occurring on cliff faces on outlying ridges of Mt Elgon in the east of the country. In March 2007Tom Forrest, accompanied by Rudy Lemmens, collected an aloe near Kijura viewpoint, high on the Albertine Escarpment, overlooking the Semliki Game Reserve and Semliki National Park. The plantwas cultivated in Kampala where it flowered. In December 2006 Tom Cole had independently collected a similar aloe at Murchison Falls National Park. This plant was growing near the top and bottom of the falls in thickets by the River Nile. It was also cultivated in Kampala.
