Primitive flowering plants

A flora family has been reclassified as a primitive form of flowering plant. Western Australia is home to many strange, showy and wonderful plants, including; the Albany pitcher plant (Ccplialoriis folliacatis), the sundew family(Divscrn), kingias,the everlastnigs, the banksia family and the southern heaths. But equally intriguing are the almost unknown tiny plants that inhabit many of our wetlands—members of the Centrolepidaceae, Hydatellaccac and Juncaginaceae fannlies. These plants have ancient lieages stenunmg from deep in the past, when Australia was joined with other continents as the supercontinent Gondwana. Tradinonally. these tascinating pygmy plants have been placed close to the grasses in dieir taxonomic classifications. But new research has revealed them to be more closelv related to primitive flowering plants like the waterlilies.
