Concomitant Herpes simplex and Epstein-Barr virus lymphadenitis with simultaneous lymph node metastases of an occult squamous cell carcinoma in a patient with chronic lymphocytic leukemia

Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is the most frequent hematological neoplasm in human adults and is characterised by progressive defects in both humoral- and cell-mediated immunity leading to increased susceptibility for viral infections and secondary malignancies . Here, we describe, to the best of our knowledge, the first case of a CLL patient with a concomitant necrotising Herpes simplex virus (HSV) and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) lymphadenitis with simultaneous metastatic lymph node infiltration by an occult primary squamous cell carcinoma of the oral cavity.
