Fota Island sits tranquilly in Cork harbour, about 10 kilometres from Cork City, Golf may have been played on the pleasant landscape setting since the late 19th century. Until 1975 the island was in the ownership of Major and Honourable Mrs Dorothy Bell, who were public spirited enough to make the facilities on Fota available to everyone, In 1993 a new golf course was developed and after a rebuilding programme it re-opened in 1999.
