Extranodal marginal zone lymphoma of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue presenting with cryoglobulinemia and subtle marrow infiltrate.

Extranodal marginal zone lymphoma of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) is an indolent extranodal B-cell lymphoma. There is often a history of chronic inflammatory disease preceding the development of the lymphoma. The gastrointestinal tract is the commonest site of MALT lymphoma with the stomach being most frequently involved. Involvement of the small intestine is less common and is typically found in immunoproliferative small intestinal disease with the production of alpha-heavy chain. Bone marrow infiltration is infrequent in gastrointestinal MALT lymphoma. In fact, the involvement of bone marrow is often minimal even if present, requiring the use of immunohistochemistry and flow cytometric analysis for its demonstration . We report a case of small intestinal MALT lymphoma which presented with subtle marrow involvement and non-hepatitis C virus-related type I cryoglobulinemia.
