Automotive wiring harnesses: balancing weight, cost, size, and complexity

Companies designing and making automotive wiring harnesses are faced with conflicting requirements. Car makers want more connections but less weight. They also want lower costs. These complex requirements are driving a number of changes in the wiring harness industry: R&D on new wire materials, connector designs, and harness designs; shifting high-volume products to low-cost labour markets.
