Rig fleet changes track unconventional drilling trend

The first month of the New Year seems a good time to take a snapshot of the U.S. land rig fleet and the kinds of changes it's undergoing. We reiterate: Snapshot. This is by no means a comprehensive survey; it's just a quick slice of the market to get a feel for U.S. onshore rig fleet trends. Coupled with some anecdotal evidence and comments from industry sources, we thought it a useful exercise until the next opportunity to comprehensively analyze the entire U.S. land rig fleet, as we did for our sister company RigData in its annual Rigs & Drillers publication last fall.
