NKK has developed an automatic line heating system that can manufacture the curved shell plates in ship-building efficiently. The system consists of gantry-type numerical control drive mechanism, torch head with mechanical height/slant sensor, measuring head with laser sensor, mechanical work bench and database system. Measuring results of this system is found to be more accurate than those using wooden pattern and is stored automatically to hard disk. This system is proved to be operated easily by experiment. We believe that the database system improves the fabrication of the curved shell plates in the near future.
