Health claims 'give you wings'! Guess who the biggest winner is?

When the EU's health claims legislation was still just a concept there were many people in industry who believed that one of the benefits of a Europe-wide system of carefully-regulated health claims requiring scientific substantiation was that it would put a stop to what they saw as the "frivolous" and "unscientific" claims made by many products. And the example they often gave of such a category was energy drinks. The reality is, however, quite the opposite. The much-reviled energy drink category -and in particular market pioneer Red Bull - has emerged as the category that has gained most in terms of being able to use health claims approved by European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).
